Potential development of 44 dwellings - Bishops Lane
28th March 2022

At their meeting on Monday 21 March 2022, the Parish Council was advised that Devine Homes (developer) intends to submit a planning application to Rother District Council (RDC) in a few weeks time, for 44 dwellings, on the field behind the houses in Bishops Lane and adjacent to Willow Bank.

This land is not currently designated for development; it was not particularly popular with residents as a development site during consultation on the Neighbourhood Plan (NP), and was not designated. RDC has already approved plans for 100 dwellings on the old mill site and 30 on Grove Farm (in line with the NP), and further land off George Hill above Heathfield Gardens, and the old vicarage site in Fair Lane were/are designated for future development. However, as none of these has actually been started, and nationally set housing targets are not being met across Rother, the developer is prepared to take a chance on it being approved regardless.

We await further details when an application is actually submitted to RDC and registered on their website. If/when that happens, the Planning Committee Meeting at which the Parish Council will consider the application will be decided / advertised.
